Richmond IN to Marysville Ohio

6 hours 54 minutes to ride 105.6 miles.

Started the day with a nice breakfast at "Bob Evans" which is a chain in the US that we have not seen before. More food than either Barry or I can eat, but it is a long day.

We take a strange route out of the hotel but obviously trying to avoid the busy roads. Just 2 1/2 miles we have to stop at the Ohio state line. Made sure we sprinkled beach sand at the sign with the rest of our group.

Away we went and were soon spoiled as we managed to get on some newly paved road with NO headwind or crosswind for a change. We made great time but had to watch on a couple of occasions as the road signs were hidden in the trees. We were then slowed as we hit some gravel on some chip seal surface. The first SAG is at mile 42 in a government building parking lot.

Once we leave the SAG something happens as the wind shifts and we have to ride in to a headwind and crosswind. We do ride by a farm where there is about 6 Amish buggies but do not see any on the road today. At mile 60 we have to stop as Barry not feeling well and not sure why? Rich is with us and spends a lot of time leading. We get to Urbana (home of the Johnny Appelseed museum), where the second SAG is. Rich and Sarah have friends waiting for them and are going to ride to Marysville with them. This could be tough with just Barry to lead. Carol has made wraps for the riders which is really appreciated as everyone hungry.

It has been threatening to rain all day and as we leave the SAG we start to get a few drops. We catch Rich and pass them. Suddenly Barry starts feeling good as the sandwich must have kicked in. We hear thunder and now Barry has us going. At times we are doing as much as 22 mph. We are getting a little wet but it was so hot and humid this morning that we hardly notice. We get in to the hotel and not long after it really starts raining. Not sure if there are any riders left out on the road but the tandem came in after us and noticed more lightning than we did.
Saw many nice brick farm houses and even a bit of wheat as well as corn and soya beans. Pretty proud of our time today, must have been the threat of getting hit by lightning.
