Champaign IL to Crawfordsville Indiana

5 hours 42 minutes to ride 79.8 miles

Today was helmet decorating day and riders were very creative. They spent the rest day at the dollar store or the party store and some of the results are shown here. Barry and I looked for cowboy hats but instead ended up with sparkly fascinators. Our shirts even matched our hats. We were the classy ones!

Leaving Champaign we had to take our time as we were staying off the busy roads. There was a little excitement at mile 4 as we had to cross some rail road tracks that were at a very bad angle for us to cross. We had to take our time as we needed to use the whole travel lane to cross the tracks at a 90 degree angle. Just before the SAG at mile 38 there was another set of bad tracks we had to cross but managed to safely. Once out of the SAG we were on to the Indiana State line. We sprinkled the beach sand at this, the 7th state line we have crossed. Rich and Sarah joined us today which helped as Rich is a strong rider and will help lead in to the head wind that we have had all day.

We stop at a store in Veedersburg at mile 56 as we need something to eat. We manage to get a chocolate milk and a V8 as well as some macaroni and cheese pizza. That sounds bad but was surprisingly good. We were fighting a headwind all day and had to stop again with just 6 miles to go. We had a quick energy gel a stretch and we kept going.

We made it to the hotel safe and sound but lost an hour as we changed to Eastern time. We had a pizza party at the hotel as the restaurant we were to go to closed down. It was a lot of laughs.
