7 hours 22 minutes in the saddle to go 97.2 miles and 2,400' of elevation gain.
The Garmins back working today, not that we need them for directions as there is only one turn all day and that's when you leave the hotel. We spent the rest of the day on 54 E.
At mile 24 there is the only store/services of the day. Then first SAG stop is at mile 28 in a nice little park but there are no washrooms. There are NO services for the next 70 miles.
26 miles later we cross in to Texas. There are 2 signs, one a green highway sign and the next one a concrete sign complete with bullet holes. Yes, we are in Texas!
As we continue on we are being passed by trucks with hay or some
Kind of feed in them and they are not covered. As they go by us it almost looks like snow the amount of debris coming off the truck. What is Dalhart known for? There are 6 feedlots where there is something like 1 million cows awaiting processing. They also have 4 pig/hog operations and the biggest corn growing operation in the US.
The last 10 miles in to Dalhart the wind really picks up but Chuck and Rich do a great job of leading the group the whole way in. It truly is all about team to complete the ride. Everybody really tired after the last couple of long hard days in to the wind.
