6 hours 58 minutes to ride 108.8 miles
Woke up this morning and when we looked outside lightning lit up the whole room. This is not good! We had progressive delays as they would not let us go until they knew there was NO more lightning. Some torrential rain at times which didn't concern them. We had a couple of false starts as it looked good then you would hear the thunder.
Finally we were allowed to leave at 10:15 which is 3 1/2 hours later than usual. Everyone trying to race and make up time but at about mile 10 I had my rear tire go flat. Quick change by Barry and away we went.
No real excitement until mile 46 when we had to cross a narrow bridge. We're escorted by the truck as there was a large group of us and made it across safe and sound. At mile 62 one of the riders went off course as he wasn't reading the directions. Caused John to ride an extra 8 miles before the day was out and he rode on very busy roads.
Getting in to Springfield you really had to pay attention as there were a couple of turns with little or no markings. Nice to be in a group so that everyone can watch for the landmarks when there are no signs. The mileage on the various computers is always close but don't think anybody can claim there's is the same as the directions.
After a bunch of twists and turns we made it to the hotel at 6:35 pm. Quick shower then off to supper and straight to bed. The bikes are dirty but we did not get rained on and the day after tomorrow is a rest day.
What is Springfield famous for - thunder storms!
The picture is the four of us that rode together all day!
